Hi All,

We have a brand new blog site that I would like you all
to check out. The layout is much different (and better if
you ask me) and is easier to use. Check it out and let me
know what you think….and don’t forget to take the poll,
which is located on the right sidebar.

Handy Hints #1

Keep your head out of the refrigerator and the door closed!
The refrigerator is the single biggest energy-consuming
kitchen appliance, and opening the refrigerator door
accounts for between $30 and $60 of a typical family’s
electricity bill each year. The amount of energy saved in
a year by more efficient refrigerator usage could be enough
to light every house in the United States for more than four
and a half months straight.

Handy Hint #2

Sharpen scissors by ‘cutting’ a glass bottle.

Hi All,

Another tip to add is to make sure hot water is there at
the dishwasher when you’re ready to operate the machine…
Most if not all dishwashing machines are located next to a
kitchen sink and utilize the hot water supply and drain of
this sink… This hot water supply can be many feet from the
water heater and the water in the piping can cool off from
lack of use… Turn on the sink hot water faucet and ensure
that any cool water has been eliminated before operating
the dishwasher, otherwise the machine will initially fill
with some cool water and not be as effective as washing
with hot water…   cheers, dave

Thanks, Dave, for taking the time to write in to me and
sharing this great hint!

Use ice cubes to water outdoor hanging plants when the
weather is warm.

Handy Hint #2

Fill a clean sock with raw rice, seal it with a rubber
band and put it in your freezer for at least two hours.
Then before you turn in, slide the frozen compress under
the covers to cool the sheets. Since rice holds a chill for
hours, keep it handy to counteract any hot spots!
